National Creamsicle Day

Today is National Creamsicle Day!  A day to celebrate a tasty summer cooler.

The heat and humidity of August beckons you to discover, and to enjoy, a summer cooler. A creamsicle is an excellent choice. This is one of several chilly ice cream and frozen snack days to enjoy on a hot, sticky August day. Just make sure to eat your creamsicle quickly before it melts.

Happy National Creamsicle Day.

National Cheesecake Day

National Cheesecake Day is today. As food holidays go, this is one of the tastiest of treats.

Despite being a rich, high calorie, and cholesterol filled, cheesecake is a very popular dessert. Why? Because it tastes so good. It is enjoyed plain, or with your favourite fruit topping.

Enjoy the day with a piece of cheesecake, along with your favourite topping. If you have time, make the cheesecake yourself (and share it with someone today!).

Happy National Cheesecake Day!

National Lasagna Day

National Lasagna Day is today. We hope you have a big appetite. Sure, it’s July. It’s hot and humid. Cooking up a pan of Lasagna will make the kitchen a lot hotter. But as it cooks, the smell will waft throughout the house. Your mouth will begin to water. When dinner time arrives, you will have a huge appetite for a huge piece of lasagna. Of this, you can be certain.

Lasagna is a favourite Italian dish. In between multiple layers of lasagna pasta are generous amounts of tomato sauce, cheeses, and sometimes hamburger and/or Italian sausage. Its the favourite Italian dish of millions of Americans. We all would eat it more often, but this culinary work of art, made with loving hands, takes time to make and bake.

It is best to celebrate National Lasagna Day by baking the lasagna that you will eat today. If you don’t have the time, or the weather is just too hot, then head out to your favourite Italian restaurant.

Happy National Lasagna DayBuon Appetito!

Take Your Pants for a Walk Day

Today is Take Your Pants for a Walk Day! What a great day to get some exercise. This special day is well noted on the internet for Ecard and calendar websites. So, we’re sure you’re planning to celebrate this day in a big, big way.

Its an easy day to celebrate. Simply go for a walk. Unless you are wearing a dress or a skirt, you probably are wearing pants. So, by definition, as you walk, they come along.

Give your pants some exercise. After all, they are looking a little tight around the middle. The walk will do them good.

Aunt and Uncles Day

Aunt and Uncles Day honours a very special pair of relatives. They are your mom and dad’s brothers and sisters. We hope you have a lot of Aunts and Uncles. The more, the merrier.

Our Aunts and Uncles mean a lot to us. Among other things, they are most likely:

  • The backup caretaker when mom and dad go out, or are at work.
  • Real characters at family get-togethers and events.
  • Someone we can talk to and related to….. some things we just can talk about with “parental units”.
  • Sound counsel and advice.
  • Someone who takes you to fun places and events.
  • Someone whose house is a great place to sleepover, especially if you have cousins.
  • The ones who give you great presents for birthdays, Christmas and special events.
  • And, the benefits of Aunts and Uncles goes on, and on, and on, and………

Celebrate Aunt and Uncles Day by spending time with your Aunts and Uncles. If you can’t visit, make a phone call. And, send them an Ecard.

Thread the Needle Day

Today is Thread the Needle Day. You can be certain that today is going to be a great day…….. if your sew….or if you love that yoga pose!

Thread the Needle Day certainly is a day for those who sew. It has a second meaning. The term “thread the needle”, is also a saying. It means to either walk a fine and difficult line between two things or issues, or to do something difficult. For example, suppose two of your friends are on opposite sides of an issue. You may have to “thread the needle” on that issue, as you attempt to retain both of them as your friend….and as a thirrd meaning check the pic for the yoga pose!

The creator of Thread the Needle Day did not document this day. So, until we find him or her, you can celebrate today by either sewing or threading the needle on issues.

National Junk Food Day

For some of us, every day is Junk Food Day. For the rest of us, National Junk Food Day is an opportunity to guiltlessly eat your favourite junk food.

Dietitians will tell you that junk food is any food that contains little nutritional value. We also include foods that are high in salts, fats, and sugars. In other words, junk food is all that tasty stuff that the dietitians, and Mom, say is bad for us.

On Junk Food Day, you get to eat anything you want. Eat any amounts that you want, too. Tomorrow, however, it’s back to a healthy diet.

Please Note: Junk food may be hazardous to your health. After all, mom knows what’s best for you. Do so at your own risk. That risk includes Mom saying: “I told you so!”

National Ice Cream Day

When you get the urge for a snack on a hot, humid summer night, what’s the first thing that comes to your mind? That’s right….Ice Cream! Therefore, it’s only fitting that ice cream be given its own special day. On this day, we hope you enjoy an ice cream cone, a sundae, or a milk shake. Set the diet aside and splurge a little…have one of each!

In 1984, President Ronald Reagan proclaimed July as National Ice Cream Month. He also established National Ice Cream Day as the third Sunday in the month.

Ice cream is nutritious. A little heavy on the sugar and calories, ice cream is otherwise good for you. Its base ingredient is milk, which is loaded with healthy vitamins and minerals.

Did you know? Charles E. Minches of St. Louis, Missouri is credited with inventing the ice cream cone. On July 23, 1904 at the World’s Fair in St. Louis, he filled a pastry cone with two scoops of ice cream to make the first ice cream cone. There is some controversy over this claim. Italo Marchiony of New York City filed a patent for the ice cream cone months before the fair opened. And, he was selling lemon ice in cones as early as 1896.

About Ice Cream Day in December: There is also a celebration of Ice Cream Day on December 13th. We found no factual information about this day. We suspect that it evolved from some local event. Perhaps a school ice cream social somehow took on an undocumented, national recognition as a special day.
