National Milk Chocolate Day
National Milk Chocolate Day is a special day for a special treat. Are you a “Choco-holic”? If you are, you look forward to each and every chocolate related holiday.
There are many flavours of chocolate. Milk chocolate is enjoyed in candies and in baking. Milk chocolate is the favourite of millions of people. So, it’s only fitting that it gets its very own special national day.
Important Note: Don’t be dyslexic about this special day. Today is a day for Milk Chocolate, not Chocolate Milk Day.
Lest there be any doubt about celebrating this day…….. Today should be spent consuming and savoring generous amounts of your favourite milk chocolate treats.
Happy National Milk Chocolate Day!
Aunt and Uncles Day
Aunt and Uncles Day honours a very special pair of relatives. They are your mom and dad’s brothers and sisters. We hope you have a lot of Aunts and Uncles. The more, the merrier.
Our Aunts and Uncles mean a lot to us. Among other things, they are most likely:
- The backup caretaker when mom and dad go out, or are at work.
- Real characters at family get-togethers and events.
- Someone we can talk to and related to….. some things we just can talk about with “parental units”.
- Sound counsel and advice.
- Someone who takes you to fun places and events.
- Someone whose house is a great place to sleepover, especially if you have cousins.
- The ones who give you great presents for birthdays, Christmas and special events.
- And, the benefits of Aunts and Uncles goes on, and on, and on, and………
Celebrate Aunt and Uncles Day by spending time with your Aunts and Uncles. If you can’t visit, make a phone call. And, send them an Ecard.
Thread the Needle Day
Today is Thread the Needle Day. You can be certain that today is going to be a great day…….. if your sew….or if you love that yoga pose!
Thread the Needle Day certainly is a day for those who sew. It has a second meaning. The term “thread the needle”, is also a saying. It means to either walk a fine and difficult line between two things or issues, or to do something difficult. For example, suppose two of your friends are on opposite sides of an issue. You may have to “thread the needle” on that issue, as you attempt to retain both of them as your friend….and as a thirrd meaning check the pic for the yoga pose!
The creator of Thread the Needle Day did not document this day. So, until we find him or her, you can celebrate today by either sewing or threading the needle on issues.
National Junk Food Day
For some of us, every day is Junk Food Day. For the rest of us, National Junk Food Day is an opportunity to guiltlessly eat your favourite junk food.
Dietitians will tell you that junk food is any food that contains little nutritional value. We also include foods that are high in salts, fats, and sugars. In other words, junk food is all that tasty stuff that the dietitians, and Mom, say is bad for us.
On Junk Food Day, you get to eat anything you want. Eat any amounts that you want, too. Tomorrow, however, it’s back to a healthy diet.
Please Note: Junk food may be hazardous to your health. After all, mom knows what’s best for you. Do so at your own risk. That risk includes Mom saying: “I told you so!”

National Ice Cream Day
When you get the urge for a snack on a hot, humid summer night, what’s the first thing that comes to your mind? That’s right….Ice Cream! Therefore, it’s only fitting that ice cream be given its own special day. On this day, we hope you enjoy an ice cream cone, a sundae, or a milk shake. Set the diet aside and splurge a little…have one of each!
In 1984, President Ronald Reagan proclaimed July as National Ice Cream Month. He also established National Ice Cream Day as the third Sunday in the month.
Ice cream is nutritious. A little heavy on the sugar and calories, ice cream is otherwise good for you. Its base ingredient is milk, which is loaded with healthy vitamins and minerals.
Did you know? Charles E. Minches of St. Louis, Missouri is credited with inventing the ice cream cone. On July 23, 1904 at the World’s Fair in St. Louis, he filled a pastry cone with two scoops of ice cream to make the first ice cream cone. There is some controversy over this claim. Italo Marchiony of New York City filed a patent for the ice cream cone months before the fair opened. And, he was selling lemon ice in cones as early as 1896.
About Ice Cream Day in December: There is also a celebration of Ice Cream Day on December 13th. We found no factual information about this day. We suspect that it evolved from some local event. Perhaps a school ice cream social somehow took on an undocumented, national recognition as a special day.
National Raspberry Cake Day
National Raspberry Cake Day makes today as sweet as a summer day can be. Tender raspberries are among the best of fruits that nature has to offer. Put them into a cake……Then, you can have your fruit and eat it, too!
Raspberries are one of summer’s sweet, fruity treats. And, the harvest is going on right now. So, it’s only appropriate that we enjoy a piece of raspberry cake in celebration of the harvest.
Here is our three step recipe for a perfect National Raspberry Cake Day:
- Go out to a “pick your own” farm and pick them fresh. Bring the kids along.
- Bake fresh raspberries into a cake (or two).
- Eat some raspberry cake with family and friends.
Enjoy
National Caviar Day
National Caviar Day suggests that something fishy is going on today. Just what’s all the roe about this day!?
Caviar is salted fish eggs, or “roe”. It is considered a delicacy. Caviar is enjoyed by the upper class, and those of us who occasionally can afford a little, just so we can say that we had some. Russian Caviar is reputed to be the very best, most sought after of all caviars. There’s red caviar and black caviar, along with other colors. Black is considered the best. Perhaps you should do a taste test.
The most prestigious, and best(??) caviar comes from sturgeon found in the Caspian Sea. But, other fish, including whitefish and salmon, are less expensive alternatives.
Which caviar truely tastes the best? We’ll let you be the judge.
Happy National Caviar Day!
Fresh Spinach Day
Fresh Spinach Day is our opportunity to put healthier food into our diets.
Popeye the Sailor is right. Spinach is one of the healthiest foods you can eat. It tastes good, and there are many recipes. Many people turn up their nose to it, without even trying it.
The reason for eating fresh spinach, is the nutritional value is highest, when it is fresh and uncooked.
Celebrate this day by introducing some fresh spinach to your meals today. You could start by mixing in some spinach into your garden salad. Your family may not even notice, but by doing so, you are making them healthier!
Gardeners know that spinach is easy to grow. And, it’s hardy. You can plant it as soon as the ground can be worked in the spring. Why, that’s today in many parts of the country!
There is another day that we celebrate this healthy vegetable. It’s National Spinach Day, celebrated on March 26th. We think it is great that there are two days to celebrate this wonderful vegetable, and to encourage people to eat healthier.
Did You Know? V-8 Vegetable Juice is not just tomato juice. It includes 8 vegetables. One of them is Spinach.
