International Skeptics Day

International Skeptics Day is the perfect day for you…the “doubting Thomas”.

Perhaps the earth isn’t really round!? Maybe, the sky isn’t truly blue!? Does he(she) really love me!? ……..These are the words and questions of the classical skeptic.

By definition, a skeptic is a person who questions or doubts facts and theories. He, or she, is a mis-believer. A skeptic does not accept the “Given”. If you are inclined to doubt things that you see or hear, then International Skeptics Day is for you.

If you practice a little, I’m sure we can make a good skeptic out of you. Go ahead, give it a try. And, what better day to practice skepticism, than International Skeptics Day!

Bald and Free Day

Bald and Free Day honours those of us with a beautiful, shiny top. You don’t have to be bald to celebrate this day. But, it helps. People who are married to, or related to a bald headed person can celebrate with the honoree.

Enough with the bald jokes. There will be zero tolerance for them today. Rather, today is a day to cherish and appreciate the freedom that comes with being bald. While the rest of us are spending money on hair cuts, hair shampoo, hair sprays, combs, and such, the bald guys is smiling as he saves money and time.

Upon becoming a lucky bald guy, you are finally freed of the worry and fret that other guys have as they wonder for years:

“Will I lose my hair?”
Is my hair turning grey?

Better still, as a bald guys are much happier. In addition to saving money on haircuts and hair accessories, they never had a “bad hair day”.

So, if you are bald, enjoy your freedom, as you celebrate Bald and Free Day.

Mo Bros and Mo Sistas Unite!

It’s that time of year again. Movember is fast approaching and we need your help. Last year our Grimsby Yoga Movember team raised $1,374.00. And 2015 is going to be even more fun! Just like last year we will be awarding FREE weeks of yoga for being part of our team and collecting donations. Earn one free week of yoga just for joining our team and earn an additional free week for raising over $25.00 in donations for our team. An additional free week will be awarded to our top Movember team member who collects the most donations. Free weeks must be used within one calender year.

What is Movember?

As an official global charity, Movember’s vision is to have an everlasting impact on the face of men’s health. During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of millions of moustaches around the world. Through the power of the moustache, vital funds and awareness are raised to combat prostate and testicular cancer and mental health challenges.

HOW IT WORKS

Movember encourages men to join the movement by growing a moustache for the 30-days of November. After REGISTERING on Movember.com, these generous Mo Bros start the month clean-shaven, then grow and groom their Mo (slang for moustache), asking friends and family to donate to their efforts. With their new moustaches, these Mo Bros act as walking and talking billboards, bringing awareness to men’s health issues and prompting conversations wherever they go.

Movember’s not just for Mo Bros. Mo Sistas are an important part of Movember’s success. Once REGISTERED, Mo Sistas raise funds and encourage the men in their lives to get involved. Essentially, Mo Sistas do everything that Mo Bros do, without a Mo. Learn more about Mo Sistas HERE.

At the end of the month, Mo Bros and Mo Sistas celebrate their Movember journey by throwing their own Movember EVENTS or attending one of the official GALA PARTÉS held around the world.

THE MOVEMBER EFFECT

Movember supports world class MEN’S HEALTH PROGRAMS that combat prostate and testicular cancer and mental health challenges. These programs, directed by the Movember Foundation, are focused on awareness and education, living with and beyond cancer, staying mentally healthy, living with and beyond mental illness and research to achieve our vision of an everlasting impact on the face of men’s health.

MOVEMBER – A GLOBAL MOVEMENT

Since its humble beginnings in 2003 in Melbourne, Australia, Movember has grown to become a truly global movement inspiring more than 3 Million Mo Bros and Mo Sistas to participate across 21 countries worldwide.

In addition, Movember is aware of Mo Bros and Mo Sistas supporting the campaign and men’s health causes across the globe, from Moscow to Rio de Janeiro, and everywhere in between.

In 2012, over 1.1 million Mo Bros and Mo Sistas around the world joined the movement, raising CAD $146.6 million.

Movember’s cost focus and economies of scale have resulted in a global fundraising and administration cost to funds raised ratio of 8%. This is well below international fundraising standards, with best practice in the range of 15% – 25%. Exceeding best practice by such a significant amount reflects Movember’s goal of reaching the highest possible campaign outcome while carefully monitoring costs.

National Frappé Day

National Frappé Day is today. It’s time to make, or buy, and drink your favourite Frappé.

One might consider Frappés to have an identity crisis. It’s made of many different things. The dictionary definition of Frappe is that it is an ice cream beverage drink. So, what’s with all of the confusion? First of all, some definitions and recipes, are the same as the ingredients for a milkshake. Also, many frappé recipes do not call for ice cream at all. Some use whipped cream. Other recipes use yogurt in place of ice cream. Other recipes still, include alcohol.

Do you care what the official definition of Frappés is? Of course not. You just care that it tastes so good, that you clamour for more. Thanks to its popularity, there are recipes galore. Perhaps the most popular today, are coffee and mocha frappés, served by coffee shops and cafés.

BTW: There’s a reason why National Frappé Day occurs in October. That’s so we can enjoy Pumpkin Frappé.

Here’s wishing you a very Happy National Frappé Day. Bottoms up.

Virus Appreciation Day

Today’s obscure holiday is Virus Appreciation Day. It gives us the opportunity to show a little respect for nasty viruses.

Respect!? You want to give viruses respect? I should think not. Rather, let’s give them a good dose of penicillin.

There are many types of viruses: human, animal and computer viruses readily come to mind. We sure can appreciate the seriousness and significance of both human and computer viruses. And, we can worry that animal (aka bird flu) viruses may jump over to affect humans.

So, let’s dedicate today to appreciating that viruses can be very serious, if not deadly. Let’s then take measures to protect ourselves, our loved ones, and even our computers to minimize the risk of serious viruses and update that computer antivirus software (is yours expired?) or get that booster shot (are you overdue?), today is a good day to check that you are up to date!

Name Your Car Day

Name Your Car Day is today! Does your car have a name? Lots of people name their cars. People with big boats, name their boat, and we think nothing of it. So, why not name your car or truck!?

Every car has character and personality. We spend a lot of time in our cars, and caring for them. So, it’s only fitting that each car gets its own name.

Selecting a name should be made with care and consideration. Give your car a name that properly reflects its character. What you name you car should be a proper reflection of its character and performance, and your desires for your car. In general, guys names are for guys’ cars, and girl names are for the cars that you ladies drive. Aside from that, selection of a name is wide open. But, be careful….cars have feelings, too.

Here are some of our thoughts in selecting an appropriate name for your car:

Don’t select wimpy names. That might give your car a personality complex and it will perform accordingly.
Do give a strong, aggressive name to sports cars and cars with powerful engines.
Sleek, sexy feline-like cars savour names that begin with “lady”.
Old junkers are proud just to be around. You can call them just about anything. Try “Tramp”, or “Old Yeller”, “Old Blue”.
Pick names to reflect your personality.
Pickup trucks MUST have country names.
Don’t give common names (like Joe, Mike or Sue) to luxury cars. They beam over names like Reginald, Archibald, and Crystal.

My Favourite is the old “Family Truckster”!
