Mutt’s Day –
It’s Mutt’s Day. Mutts deserve their day in the spotlight, as much as a pure breed. If you own a mutt, or you are a mutt (reading this), then you know this day is for you.
By definition a mutt, sometimes called a “Half-breed”, is a dog that is of mixed breed. They come from two to several breeds. Purebred owners, and sometimes the public in general, view them as lesser in many ways. Mutt owners know better. They value the diversity and uniqueness of their mutts. Sure, a mutt doesn’t carry the expensive price tag that a purebred with papers has on its head. To the mutt owner, however, the mutt is invaluable. In addition, mutts don’t walk around needing to prove anything. You won’t see them strutting around any dog shows trying to prove they are the best.
To all mutts and and mutt owners, we hope you thoroughly enjoy Mutt’s Day. Spend the day relaxing and doing all the things you and your dog like to do. Do so with both of your chins held high. For your mutt is worth a million bucks!
National Hot Dog Day –
National Hot Dog Day celebrates one of America’s favourite summer sandwiches. It is only fitting that this dog gets its day.
Its summertime. Hot dogs are centre stage on the grill, and at picnics all across America. They are at the ballpark. They are sold from carts on street corners in every city. It’s not hard to find them. We consume hundreds of millions of hot dogs on the Fourth of July alone.
Enjoy National Hot Dog Day to the fullest. Have a couple of hot dogs for lunch or dinner. And, don’t forget to cook a few on a stick at the evening campfire.
What’s in a hot dog? Don’t’ ask, and we won’t tell. Sometimes, its best if you don’t know.
Happy National Hot Dog Day!
The companion for National Hot Dog Day is National Mustard Day
How many Hot Dogs do we eat?
We consume so many hot dogs, in so many venues, that the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council hesitates to forecast consumption. But, it does report that each year we buy over 837 million packages of hot dogs at retail outlets, and over 24 million hot dogs at baseball stadiums alone.
Hammock Day –
Date when: Always on July 22nd.
Summer is in full swing. It’s time to slow down and to relax. During the Dog Days of summer (and all of the other summer days, too), there is no better place to slow down and relax, than on a hammock.
Hammock Day is appropriately celebrated right in the middle of the Dog Days of summer (July 3 though August 11th.
Hammock Day exists to enjoy summer as it should be enjoyed. People celebrate Hammock Day by spending as much time relaxing on it as possible. Getting out of your hammock to get a snack, or your favourite summer beverage is okay. But, it is not a day for work. Cutting the lawn is forbidden on this day.
The roots of Hammock Day and Hammock Day history is largely unknown. Maybe the originator was too busy napping on his or her hammock!?!
Peach Ice Cream Day
Just squeezing this in at the end of the day!
Peaches are one of the best flavours of the summer season. People wait for about 48 weeks for the peach harvest to ripen. And, when it does, for a few short weeks, its “peach everything”! In celebration of the harvest, the ice cream companies make peach ice cream. Its hard to find other times of the year. Most major ice cream makers only produce it during the summer. (It kinda makes you yearn for the old days of HOJO’s 28 Flavors!)
Peach Ice cream is the way to go today. Enjoy it on an ice cream cone, in an ice cream soda, in a sundae, or simply in a dish.
You’ll find Peach Ice Cream Day is the real scoop!
Cow Appreciation Day
Today is Cow Appreciation Day. And, that’s no bull! But, it is something to “Moo” about.
C’mon, big guy…… give me a hug!
Our appreciation for cows can be expressed in many ways. Some websites suggest you go out and give a cow a big hug and/or a kiss. While it might sound like fun, you don’t have to go to extremes to enjoy this special day. It can be as simple as pausing for a moment to to think about cows, and all that they do for us.
Now that we’ve had our moment of silence, it’s time to celebrate. Have an ice cold glass of milk. Add chocolate syrup, if you prefer. We could tell you to fire up the grill, and cook some burgers or a steak….but that’s just not us. However, we will tell you it is a great day to get your fill of cheese. Sorry, goat cheese is not allowed today.
Note: Restaurants and dairy companies celebrate this day by offering specials. Watch for them, and save.
National Nude Day –
National Nude Day is a way to keep cool on a hot , sticky summer day. So, take it off……take it all off.
…. Sorry, we will display no pictures of National Nude Day.
National Nude Day is a serious event. There are a sizable number of nudist groups around the world. They are not perverts. Rather, Nudists believe that the body is a beautiful thing, and meant to be displayed. Nudist colonies, nude beaches, and other venues exist to cater to the preferences of individuals who seek to walk around “au natural”.
We will not speak to whether this is right or wrong. We simply desire to make you aware of all of this holiday. Snicker if you will. But, please don’t put the “sleeze” into this holiday.
Interestingly, we found a lot of sites promoting Nude Day T-shirts. But, isn’t this problematic? How can you wear a T-shirt on National Nude Day!??
Cheer Up the Lonely Day
Cheer Up the Lonely Day is an opportunity to make a lonely person happy. Any time you can make someone happy, you’ve done a good thing, and should be proud of yourself.
Lonely people have few friends and loved ones. They may have lost loved ones over the years. They may be elderly. They see people on an infrequent basis.
Spend some time today cheering up lonely people. It’s easy to do…..just spend some time with them. When you visit, bring happy things to talk about. Keep the conversation upbeat, and lively. When you leave, give a big hug and let them know you enjoyed the stay. Sending cards or making a phone call is okay, only if they live too far away to visit. What a lonely person really needs, is face to face time with other people.
The Origin of Cheer Up the Lonely Day:
According to L.J. Pesek, Cheer Up the Lonely Day was created by her father, Francis Pesek from Detriot, Michigan. She told us that he “was a quiet, kind, wonderful man who had a heart of gold. He got the idea as a way of promoting kindness toward others who were lonely or forgotten as shut-ins or in nursing homes with no relatives or friends to look in on them.” Francis Pesek chose this day, because it was his birthday.
Video Games Day
Video Games Day celebrates popular video games that stormed onto the market, and changed the way your kids play games. From Atari to Nintendo to Xbox, video games provide all too many hours of playing time on your television set.
In grandma and grandpa’s day, they had stick horses for toys and playtime. Todays kids (big kids and little kids) have an enormous array of video games to play. Before you get tired of one game, another one hits the market.
Celebrate National Video Games Day by playing video games. If you are off from school (or if you are a big kid off from work), make this a marathon day for video games. Better still, invite a few friends and hold a competition. Just make certain that you have enough controllers.
Chocolate Day
Chocolate Day is the perfect opportunity to eat you favourite chocolates in ample portions. Do you really need another excuse to over indulge with your favourite food treat?
Chocolate is North America’s favorite flavor. It’s the flavour of choice in candies, ice cream, cakes, breakfast cereal, toppings, and a whole host of desserts. Unequaled in popularity, it certainly deserves a day in it’s honour.
Did you know? Chocolate is a vegetable. It comes from the Cacao tree found in tropical rain forests.
We don’t need to tell you what to do to celebrate this day, do we? Eat Chocolate!
May we offer these suggestions for your menu today…….
Breakfast: Your favorite chocolate cereal along with two or three chocolate cream-filled donuts. Wash it down with a little hot chocolate.
Mid-morning snack: A chocolate candy bar(with or without nuts) to hold you over and give you a boost until lunch.
Lunch: A big tall glass of chocolate milk is a must along with your meal. Try a piece of chocolate pie or pudding for dessert.
Mid-Afternoon: Eat healthy(???) with some chocolate covered raisins. This contains both vegetable and fruit.
Dinner: If you are an adult, sip a chocolate liqueur before dinner. Chocolate flavored coffee is a must with dinner. Dessert is none other than chocolate cake.
Nighttime snack: Chocolate ice cream, of course!
